The History Behind Ruthven Barracks

Ruthven Barracks was build in the early 18th century by British government following the 1715 Jacobite rebellion. It was constructed on the side of an easier medical castle and served as a military outpost to help control the Highlands.After the battle of Culloden in1746, Jacobite forces retreated to Ruthven, hopping to continue their fight. However, after receiving orders to disperse, they abandoned the site, and British troop slater set fire to the barracks, leaving it in ruins. Today, the remains of the Ruthven Barracks stands as powerful reminder of Scotland’s turbulent past.
